JAZZIN' with the CLASSICS for CHRISTMAS by CANDLELIGHT
Linda Tsatsanis ~ soprano • Jeffrey Cohan ~ flute
Martin Lund~ flute, clarinet and piano • Gene Nery ~ guitar
The
third annual Candlelight Concerts presents four renowned classical and
jazz artists and friends who meld their musical perspectives in this
unique candlelight celebration of the Yuletide season. Tsatsanis, Lund,
Cohan and Nery team up to bridge contemporary improvisational jazz and
the art music of baroque and renaissance times. Instrumental musicians
have "jazzed up" melodies familiar to them in the style of their day
for centuries, and this team's virtuoso improvisations on Yuletide
favorites such as Silver Bells and What Child is This, and their
renditions of classical standards such as Bach's setting of In Dulci
Jubilo, the exquisite French carol
Un Jeune Fillette and the early 17th-century Canzonetta Spirituale
sopra alla nanna by Tarquino Merulo will bring together the best of all
things jazz and classical.
Dedicated to GEORGE SHANGROW, the third annual Candlelight Concerts continues a
tradition which George initiated with countless past Candlelight
Evenings of Baroque Music for the Yuletide season and beyond.
Chamber music both familiar and new is performed by some of the
Northwest’s prominent soloists.
